Abstract
:
This research aims at studying the available capabilities for improving some properties of the fabrics used for making garments. This is done through equipping the fabrics with easy-care finishings particulary those for crease-resistance and permanent-press. The aim is to improve the gaments made locally to a high standard of quality and appearance. 1. Effectiveness of the substances used : Experiments have confirmed the effectiveness of reactive resins in finishing all fabrics. Some resin comounds sush as knittex CR, arkofix NG and lyofix CH have given excellent crease-resistant results. The study also demonstrated the advantages of using mixed catalyst agents sush as ammonium chloride with tartaric acid in the resin finishing bath. The use of sush agents enabled the baking process at somewhat lower temperatures. This is important in factories which are unable of producing high-temperature steam, or who have inefficient baking ovens. The study also demonstrated the improved use of mixing resins of different characteristics such as urea formaldehyde with some reactive resins. Such mix produced good results in the crease-resistance of the fabric while maintaining a great amount of durability. 2. Results of the different techniques used in finishing: By comparing the various of finishing, it is found that the wet cross-linking technique yields the best results as for as durability is concerned, while maintaining a high degree of crease-resistance in wet conditions. All fabrics treated this way maintained their durability after the treatment. The improved technique of finishing by both dry and wet cross-linking produced, on the other hand, large opening angles in both wet and dry cases. This technique may, therefore, be used on dress fabrics in the case of easy-care to impart wrinkle and crease-resistance and also to impart what is termed as wash & wear. However, precision must be observed when preparing these finishings. This calls for very precise and highly skilled technicians. These treatments can improve the quality of fabrics and make them comparable to fabrics made of synthetic fibers such as polyamide and polyester
